    The 434th ARW refueled two F-35s over the Midwest during their delivery to the 158th Fighter Wing out of the Vermont Air National Guard Base, South Burlington, Vermont. The National Guard unit is the first Air National Guard unit to receive the aircraft.

  • WWII veteran issues oath of enlistment during Grissom Air and Space Expo

    During the year that marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day, 75 recruits took center stage during the Grissom Air and Space Expo at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind. Sept. 7, 2019 and recited the oath of enlistment. It’s an oath taken by all enlisted U.S. military members. However, this occasion was even more special because retired 1st Lt. Robert Tobey, a World War II veteran, issued the oath.
  • Make-A-Wish families enjoy time with Thunderbirds ahead of Grissom airshow

    The high flying Thunderbirds came to a halt on Sept. 6, 2019 for a very special reason-the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Four children from the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana Make-A-Wish organization came to Grissom to spend time on the base, and with the famous Thunderbirds ahead of the Grissom Air and Space Expo Sept. 7-8, 2019.
  • Enormous crowds gather for 2019 Grissom Air & Space Expo

    Grissom Air Reserve Base hosted an estimated crowd of more than 50,000 over the weekend as military and civilian aircraft from around the country put on a show overhead.
  • First day of Grissom Air & Space Expo kicks off

    With the sun shining and the jets roaring, day one of the Grissom Air & Space Expo left thousands of visitors with plenty to talk about! The air show is the first since 2003 and crowds estimated to be 30-35,000 plus bore witness to old and new military hardware from the time the gates opened at 8:30 a.m. until they closed at 5 p.m.
  • 72nd ARS performs Grissom’s first KC-46 refueling

    Old school met new school in a historic flight for the 434th Air Refueling Wing. Staff Sgt. Dillan Addington, Staff Sgt. Sean Witter, and Master Sgt. Jessie Rood, 72nd Air Refueling Squadron boom operators, recently performed Grissom’s first ever air refueling between a KC-135R Stratotanker and a KC-46 Pegasus.
  • Grissom to display KC-10 at Air & Space Expo

    A KC-10 Extender is scheduled to be on display at the Grissom Air & Space Expo Sept. 7-8.
