The Hoosier Wing recently welcomed a new inspector general.

Col. Kyle Cioffero took over as the new 434th Air Refueling Wing inspector general, replacing Col. Susan Maki after her retirement.

Cioffero comes to Grissom from Langley Air Force base in Virginia where he was assigned to Air Combat Command headquarters as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee.

According to Cioffero, his job as the inspector general is to be the eyes and ears of the commander and to identify trends which may affect Grissom’s readiness.

“The other main point of my position is the complaints resolution process,” said Cioffero “I help really everyone regardless of rank or even civilians, if you have an official formal complaint. Most of the time, what I’m doing is helping folks just resolve issues and pointing them in the direction of resources to help them get their issue resolved or I’m helping to do it for them.”

Cioffero believes his background as a career intelligence officer can help him bring something new to Grissom.

“I have that analytical piece to help look at issues, but also help resolve folks’ issues or point them in the right direction,” Cioffero said. “I think also what I would bring new is that I spent years in the private sector as well in manufacturing, so a lot of training and just improving efficiencies. I’m a program analyst for the Army, so what I do in that role is looking at long term strategies for the Army, so I feel I can bring that strategic piece as well.”

Cioffero mentioned many ways for people to contact him.

“Folks can come to the office of course,” Cioffero said. “They can email me or slip a 102 form underneath my door, but that’s obviously not the most primary. I can be contacted via my phone number and I also have a hotline which I carry the cell phone during the month, so I can be contacted at that number as well. I do try to resolve folks’ issues during the month as well. I try not to sit on anything.”

Cioffero showed his excitement to get started and being here at Grissom.

“I’m really glad to be here,” said Cioffero. “I’m excited about the position and I’m really looking forward to it.”
