Twice a year or once a year, we take the Air Force fitness assessment test depending on your score. It’s what we’ve grown accustomed to when it comes to physical fitness testing, but like so many other things, COVID-19 derailed it. For over a year, fitness tests didn’t exist, but now, after 15 months, Grissom Airmen are beginning fitness tests for the first time since the pandemic.

In order to dust the cobwebs off, and prepare after such a long time off, Grissom has arranged multiple programs for Airmen to be fit-to-fight.

“One of the programs we have in place is the Fitness Improvement Class,” said Dustin Fulkerson, 434th Force Support Squadron exercise physiologist. “Those are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. On the Unit Training Assembly weekends, they are on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 12 p.m.”

This class conducts a full physical fitness assessment to establish a benchmark and goals to get Airmen physically fit for their test.

“Airmen are encouraged to conduct diagnostic personal fitness assessments to establish their current performance and establish goals for each component outside of UTA weekends to improve their fitness scores,” said Fulkerson.

Additional classes and resources such as 3D Running Gait Analysis sessions and online training sessions are available upon request.

“It’s important for our Airmen to use these fitness programs that we have so they can be ready to perform on the test and maintain their overall health,” said Fulkerson.
