New financial training requirements are scheduled to take effect for all Air Force Reservists Nov. 15th.

The new training will be required before or after certain key points of each member’s military career.

“If a member is required to complete financial training, they will receive a MyVector email notification,” said Stacey Pennington, Grissom Air Reserve Base Airman & Family Readiness director. “The main thing everyone needs to know about this is to watch for those emails.”

The new Department of Defense instruction emphasizes a need for financial readiness and financial literacy among Airmen, to support their capability to perform their wartime responsibilities.

The following events will trigger the financial training requirement:

•Initial entry training

•Arrival at first duty station

•Arrival at subsequent duty station (E-4/O-3 and below)

•Promotion (E-5/O-4 and below)

•Vests in Thrift Savings Plan

•Continuation Pay

•Separation or retirement

•Leadership training

•Pre-deployment

•Post-deployment

•Birth of first child

•Marriage

•Divorce

•Disabling sickness or condition

“We have two financial counselors on staff, and I am also accredited to provide financial counseling services,” Pennington said. “In addition to online and in-class training, we also offer private counseling for Airmen who request it.”
