Blowing winds and a steady cold rain couldn’t slow down a group of Grissom runners during the annual Halloween 5K.

A dedicated group of six met at the base fitness center to participate in the run Oct. 30, despite inclement weather.

The 5K trail was transformed by Grissom’s Airman & Family Readiness with an assortment of Halloween decorations, fog and seasonal music to add to the theme.

“I think we had an exceptional turnout despite the weather,” said Stacey Pennington, Grissom’s community readiness consultant who led the charge to decorate the event. “Halloween is my absolute favorite season.”

While some individuals participated for the exercise others just simply enjoyed the comradery.

“I see all the effort put into it by so many people and I just wanted to show my support,” said Adam Reynolds, 434th ARW honor guard program manager. “I’m glad I did it. It makes me feel like I accomplished something.”

Finishing first place was Marty Foye, 434th Air Refueling Wing financial services officer, second place Nacoma Leon, 434th ARW recruiter, and third Justin Krautkremer, 434th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordinance NCOIC of quality assurance.

Grissom’s next 5K run event will be the Turkey Trot at noon on November 13, 2019.
