Grissom held a Christmas celebration to show support for family members of Airmen at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind. Dec 1 here.
The 434th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center transformed Dock 1 into a Christmas wonderland complete with Santa and his workshop for families to get photos printed onto pillow cases, tables full of games, coloring sheets, hot cocoa, and stations to decorate cookies.
”This Christmas event went phenomenally well,” said Stacey Pennington, A&FR community readiness consultant. “Despite the weather, it was an amazing turn out; families looked really happy.”
With the plethora of activities to keep families busy, Stacey added a personal touch to the event that she enjoys doing with her own family.
“One of the things that I wanted to do was give families the opportunity to make memories at this Christmas party, she said” What I love to do with my family is play the classic board games. “I strategically placed as our centerpieces games that the families played together.
With all of the set up and coordinating A&FR had to do, they were grateful for the many hands that were raised as volunteers stepped in to ensure the party’s success.
“We had about 35 members of the developmental and training flight volunteer to help with the party, staff from A&FR were also a huge help,” said Pennington. “This was definitely a team effort, many hands make for light work and can turn a dock into a Christmas party.”
The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. The Citizen Airmen from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
