Grissom leadership joined the 434th Force Support Squadron by serving a holiday meal during lunch at the dining facility, Dec. 1.

Among the leadership were Col. Larry Shaw, 434th Air Refueling Squadron commander, Col. Anne Noel, 434th ARW vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Wesley Marion, 434th ARW command chief.

“Having leadership serve the meal has been a Grissom tradition since I’ve been here,” said Tech. Sgt. Tramona Huxley, 434th Force Support Squadron dining facility manager. “It gives them the opportunity to step into the shoes of services troops while also having the chance to see all of the Grissom personnel come through the dining facility. It also allows the members of Grissom see our leadership in a different role other than what they are accustomed to.”

The services flight prepared enough holiday-style food in anticipation of 700 diners.

In addition to traditional side dishes, the meal also included choices of turkey, ham and prime rib roast.

According to Huxley, the preparation for the holiday meal began Friday morning and ended about 30 minutes prior to serving the Saturday lunch.

“It’s good to serve a feast like this for Airmen because this is their home away from home,” said Huxley. “Our goal is to prepare a meal similar to the meal that you would get at home surrounded by your family and friends.  Because after all, Grissom is our second family.”

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. The Citizen Airmen from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
