Grissom wishes everyone a fun and safe Labor Day weekend!

Every year on the first Monday in September, we celebrate the achievements of American workers in the pursuit of strength, prosperity, and continued well-being of our nation. This Labor Day, the Grissom safety office would like to remind you to be responsible while enjoying celebrations with family and friends.

Whatever your Labor Day weekend plans may be, be sure to take all necessary precautions and use safety equipment where needed. For those working on projects in or around the home, safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves are all recommended when appropriate.

“Everyone needs to have a safety mindset this holiday as we have had multiple injuries Air Force-wide already that could have been prevented if injured personnel had used proper risk management,” said Johnny Armes, 434th Air Refueling Wing occupational safety manager.

Armes had the following list of suggestions for making sure you minimize risk this Labor Day weekend:
• Be aware of burn and fire hazards around the grill, pets included.

• Never grill indoors or in a closed area.

• Ensure grill is always supervised.

• Allow ample time for food to cook and check temperatures.

• If hiking/camping, never travel alone.

• Pack extra gear, water and food in case of emergency.

• When outdoors, wear sunscreen.

“These tips are useful for all of us,” said Armes. “If we go into any situation not being aware of the risks that are involved, it makes us very vulnerable to accidents and mishaps that could have otherwise been prevented.”

Thank you, and enjoy your weekend!
