Navigating financial matters can, at times, be a complicated task. Fortunately, Grissom has a wide range of options to help members stay on top of complicated money matters.

Daryl Ewick and Kevin Kensinger are 434th Air Refueling Wing personal financial counselors and readily available to help.

From tackling student loan debt to figuring out a large, unexpected bill, Ewick encourages members not to suffer in silence.

“We can help with budgeting, credit questions, retirement and estate planning questions-really anything financially related that an Airman has questions on,” said Ewick.

Military family life counselors are partnered with the Department of Defense to provide financial services to military members, civilian employees and their families.

Appointments are not just limited to base. Financial counselors are available at multiple locations throughout the state for national guardsmen, reservists and military personnel.

Ewick is also able to meet outside of the base, usually within a 50-mile radius, but he said counselors have flexibility and are able to meet at a location that works best for the member.

”If it’s Muncie, Kokomo, Indianapolis-we can go to where the Airman is if they can’t make it to base for some reason,” Ewick said.

Substantial loan debt and low credit scores have the potential to negatively impact a service member’s security clearance.

Before it gets that far, members are encouraged to use the resources at their disposal.

“Come to us and we can get on the phone with the companies that have that debt and negotiate a settlement or payment plan to get them in a better situation,” said Ewick. “We can document it in their files to show that they’re working toward it so it’ll have less of a chance to affect their clearance.”

Ewick and Kensinger are available by walk-in or appointments. Interested members should contact the Airman and Family Readiness center at 765-688-4812 to speak with the counselors.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Men and women from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
