  • WWII veteran issues oath of enlistment during Grissom Air and Space Expo

    During the year that marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day, 75 recruits took center stage during the Grissom Air and Space Expo at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind. Sept. 7, 2019 and recited the oath of enlistment. It’s an oath taken by all enlisted U.S. military members. However, this occasion was even more special because retired 1st Lt. Robert Tobey, a World War II veteran, issued the oath.
  • Make-A-Wish families enjoy time with Thunderbirds ahead of Grissom airshow

    The high flying Thunderbirds came to a halt on Sept. 6, 2019 for a very special reason-the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Four children from the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana Make-A-Wish organization came to Grissom to spend time on the base, and with the famous Thunderbirds ahead of the Grissom Air and Space Expo Sept. 7-8, 2019.
  • USAF jazz band set to perform in Wabash

    The Air Force’s jazz ensemble, Shades of Blue, is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in a free concert at the Honeywell Center in Wabash. The ensemble is comprised of a group of 18 professional enlisted musicians whose portfolios range from traditional big band jazz, to bebop, swing and modern jazz.
  • Traffic routes finalized for Grissom Air and Space Expo

    Soon the skies will be filled with the thunder of jet noise as the base opens its doors for the Grissom Air and Space Expo. Planning for the Sept. 7-8 show has been a massive undertaking and as officials put the final touches in place, one of the biggest tasks is getting to the base.

    There are just under two months to go until the Grissom Air and Space Expo on Sept. 7-8, and planners have moved from the crawling and walking stage, right into the run. It’s been a massive undertaking, with a lot of moving parts. One of the biggest moving parts will actually be somewhat stationary on event days-parking.
  • DOD delays Post 9/11 GI Bill changes

    The Department of Defense has delayed the implementation of a policy that would limit a service member’s ability to share education benefits with family members. The policy, originally slated to take effect July 12, 2019, will discontinue the transfer benefit for members with 16 years or more of service.

  • Support staff takes flight to see mission in action

    Over two dozen civilian support staff from the 434th Air Refueling Wing received an incentive flight June 25, to allow them to see firsthand how they support the mission. Employees from Grissom’s lodging and dining facilities, outdoor recreation and fitness center were joined by members of the Miami Correctional Facility K9 unit on a refueling exercise.
