Countdown to Military Retiree Appreciation Day begins Published Aug. 16, 2007 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind -- The first ever Military Retiree Appreciation Day at Grissom ARB is fast approaching. The event, which includes free food, an information fair, and other special surprises, will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 24 at the Picnic Pavilions adjacent to the new lodging complex at Grissom ARB. "The Military Retiree Appreciation Day is a springboard for a number of other future events," explained Lt. Col. Gary Lockard, chief of public affairs. "It is our hope the military retirees in our area will take this opportunity to visit the base so we can develop a long-term outreach program. However, for the base-retiree relationship to develop, we need good attendance and participation." Future events planned by the newly opened Retiree Information Office include a day-long outing to Michigan City, Ind., in September, Holiday dinner in November, and a Christmas shopping trip in December. For the information fair portion of the appreciation day, various organizations that provide services to military retirees will be on hand to answer questions. Scheduled to be in attendance are representatives from the Veterans Administration, Tricare, Delta Dental, Air Force Association, Navy League, Marine Corps League, Grissom Community Council, Miami-Cass-Howard Veterans Service Officers, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Grissom Air Museum, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Grissom agencies will include Pass & ID, 434th Services Flight, and the Military Personnel Flight. For more information on the Military Retiree Appreciation Day, call (765) 688-3348.
