Student jobs available at Grissom ARB

  • Published
Students who are looking for employment are encouraged to apply for the Student Temporary Employment Program at Grissom ARB.

The Civilian Personnel Office is currently accepting resumes for the year round program designed to provide local students the opportunity to gain work experience, develop a sound work ethic, and earn income to offset tuition and other school related expenses.

Applicants must be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment if changing schools) as degree seeking students in an accredited high school or college, university, graduate, professional school, or vocational program at a minimum of half time.

For most schools, six credit hours are considered half time. Applicants are encouraged to check with their school to be sure this is correct. Once employed, students must maintain a minimum half time course load and good academic standing.

Students may work up to 40 hours per week. Supervisors are flexible regarding scheduling and working around class schedules. Students who wish to work part-time during the school year may work full time during school vacations, defined as periods when school is closed for a week or longer. The student applicant must be at least 16 years of age. If you are 16, a work permit from the school is required.

Positions Available include Office Automation Clerk (GS-0326-03) at $11.34 per hour and Laborer (WG-3502-02) at $12.80 per hour.

Qualifications for the Clerk position include six months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work experience or one year above the high school level of education or equivalent, as well as the ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.

For the Laborer position, applicants must have a willingness to do low-level work. Worker may do several types of simple tasks over a period; one is completed before a new assignment is given.

Students earn paid vacation time and sick leave for illness and appointments. The accrual of time varies depending on work schedule. After one year, students are eligible to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. The student has to pay their share and the government share plus a 2% administrative cost for their health plan.

Students applying for the Office Automation Clerk position must include a statement on their resume self-certifying the number of words they can type per minute. If student is a veteran and is claiming veteran's preference, they must submit a copy of their DD 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Member Copy 4).
