GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- Part of being a member of the Air Force is being physically fit and the Plastic Egg Run, which took place April 27, 2016 here, shows that working out can be also fun.

The fitness center hosted the 5K-run in which teams are required to perform different tasks at stations spaced evenly around the course.

After running from one station to the next teams pulled a plastic egg from a bucket, inside the egg was a challenge the team had to complete before being allowed to move on. The challenges varied from drinking an entire bottle of root beer to doing a certain number of push-ups to holding hands and skipping to the next station. The different challenges and the silly atmosphere make the egg run less about competition and more about camaraderie.

“The color run is good but this is so much more fun,” said Martin Foye, 434th Air Refueling Wing financial services officer.

Zachery Holmes, 434th Force Support Squadron, said he was disappointed the weather was dreary and may have affected the turn out, but overall he was happy with the event.

“Despite the weather it turned out pretty good,” said Holmes. “The teams all stayed very close to each other and that was my goal. I didn’t want any one team to be way out in front or to get left behind.”

Holmes said that he hopes to have even more people at the event next year as word spreads from the people who enjoyed it this year.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Airmen and aircraft from the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives.
