The Hoosier Wing bid farewell to its inspector general, Col. Kyle Cioffero, after celebrating 35 years of service during his retirement ceremony at Gus Grissom Hall, Mar. 1, 2025.

Retired Col. Lloyd Terry officiated the ceremony and spoke of Cioffero’s reliable work ethic.

“If you needed it done, Kyle would get it done,” Terry said. “If it couldn’t be done, Kyle would find a way to get it done.”

Col. Van Thai, 434th ARW commander, noted Cioffero’s superior leadership, exemplary foresight and personal dedication which significantly improved the worldwide operational readiness of wing personnel and their focus on the aerial refueling mission.

“The distinctive accomplishments of Col. Cioffero culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country,” Thai notes, “and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.”

After 35 years of service in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, Cioffero has had a broad range of intelligence experience. He began his career in 1990, enlisting in the 106th Rescue Wing New Air National Guard Westhampton Beach and serving as an Information Management Specialist before cross-training to Intelligence Operations. Later, he was commissioned as an Intelligence Officer in the New York Air National Guard and then transferred to the Air Force Reserves in 1998.

Immediately after 9/11, he served as the first intelligence presence in the Homeland Emergency Response Cell at Scott Air Force Base, IL. He supported numerous MAJCOMS throughout his career, including during several intelligence assignments at HQ AFRC, 22nd Air Force, and Air Mobility Command. While serving as inspector general at the Hoosier Wing, Cioffero led over 30 training events, briefing over 200 newcomers and wing staff on the IG Complaint resolution program.

“The Air Force has pushed me to be better than I am and has had a profound impact in my life,” Cioffero said. “When I think of my career in the Air Force, the first thought that comes to mind is the privilege of working with the people that I have worked with. I am truly honored to be a part of this team.”
