The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations has authorized release the body of Marine Corporal Humberto Sanchez to his family.

Corporal Sanchez will arrive at Grissom at approximately 10:30 a.m. Sept. 12, 2021.

Marines from Communication Company, Detachment 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 45 at Grissom will perform the dignified transfer from the arriving aircraft to the awaiting hearse for transport to a Logansport Indiana funeral home.

Photography on base is limited to public affairs staff only.

Grissom will enter quiet hours during the timeframe of the dignified transfer, 9 a.m.-noon, and the base also will be restricted Sunday from off base visitors, retirees, dependents and delivery vehicles to accommodate the privacy of the Sanchez family.

Those wanting to take video or photos of the procession off base may do so. Currently the plan is to exit flightline on Skytrain, turn right onto Hoosier Blvd, exit the base, turn left on Foreman Ave., and proceed to SR 218 West toward Walton, turning north on U.S. 35 to Logansport. The procession will exit onto Main Street from U.S. 35 and continue toward Burlington Avenue. Turning north onto Burlington and heading to the intersection of 3rd and Market streets, before turning on 18th Street and proceeding to Broadway. West on Broadway to the funeral home.
While an exact time is not available, the procession should depart Grissom at between 10:45-11 a.m.

The dignified transfer is not a ceremony; rather, it is a solemn movement of the casket by a carry team composed of military personnel from the fallen member's respective service.

A dignified transfer is conducted for every U.S. military member who dies in the theater of operation while in the service of their country. A senior ranking officer of the fallen member's service presides over each dignified transfer.
