Fuels NCO named tops in command Published May 31, 2008 By SrA. Chris Bolen 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM ARB, Ind., -- Air Force Reserve Senior Master Sgt. Robert Moore of Muncie, Ind., was recently named the Air Reserve Component Fuels Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for 2007. Sergeant Moore is the 434th Logistics Readiness Squadron's fuels superintendent. He is responsible for one of the largest fuels management flights in the Air Force Reserve Command. The Air Force level award is for a service member in either the Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard, who has demonstrates exceptional expertise, professionalism and leadership as a Senior NCO in the fuels career field. The award recipient is authorized the Air Force Recognition Ribbon. Sergeant Moore previously won Air Reserve Component Fuels NCO of the Year for 2003 making him the only reservist to win an Air Force level Fuels award twice. The award came after he had won Fourth Air Force and then Air Force Reserve Command Fuels Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year. The award not only recognizes his performance at Grissom but also during what he regards as one of the most challenging deployments of his career, which includes two tours in Iraq. In early 2007, Sergeant Moore deployed to Afghanistan and served as the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing's Fuels Manager in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. "I was deployed to Bagram AB, Afghanistan supervising eighteen active-duty personnel from Shaw, Scott, Dover and Charleston Air Force Bases," he explained. Among his notable achievements was the development of a long-term Air Force fuel facility plan at Bagram. "This included the rebuilding of the fuel bladder storage areas, upgrading equipment and increasing the number of mobile refuelers," he explained. "We dealt with a lot of challenges including a potentially catastrophic fuel shortage during combat and airlift operations." During which he personally directed limited fuel to F-15 close air support sorties, which resulted in successful ground engagements by the 10th Mountain Division troops against Taliban and Al Qaeda insurgents. "I am extremely honored for being recognized for my efforts, but it's not just me, it's the team I had there at Bagram," he added. "Here at Grissom I am fortunate to have some outstanding airmen working in my flight."
