Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day

The men and women of Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., join with millions of others on this day to reflect and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of our nation's civil rights heroes.  Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929 and in 1964 won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end racial discrimination.  After his death in 1968, he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977.  Martin Luther King, Jr., Day was made a national U.S. holiday in 1986.
