Grissom recruiters exceed annual goal

  • Published
They came from small towns and major metropolitan areas. Some went to basic training to get their first taste of the Air Force while others who had prior military experience went directly to a technical training school. Some became aircraft maintainers, others civil engineers or one of the dozens of other career fields in the 434th Air Refueling Wing.

Whatever their background, the common denominator they all shared was beginning their Air Force Reserve career with help of one of Grissom's recruiters. More than 200 new recruits were added to the ranks thanks to the dedicated efforts of a six-person recruiting team that covered an area stretching from Southern Indiana to the greater Chicagoland area.

Recruiters from Grissom ARB once again exceeded their annual goal for accessions into the 434t ARW. The goal was 199 and the recruiting team added 229 to the ranks. More than half of the accessions into the unit were non-prior service members.

"It is true, we made our annual recruiting goal for the 10th consecutive year," explained Senior Master Sgt. William Fountas, senior recruiter at Grissom. "We have a great bunch of recruiters assigned here, they really enjoy what they do, and are truly the best in DOD!"

Other Grissom recruiters and their totals for the fiscal year ending in September include:
Master Sgt. Carole Kurtzer, Oaklawn, Ill: Goal 42 Accessions 57
Master Sgt.Brad Wiedeman, Mishawka, Ind: Goal 38 Accessions 50
Master Sgt. Christopher Crosier, Peru, Ind: Goal 42 Accessions 42
Technical Sgt. Shawn Emmerling, Indianapolis, Ind: Goal 46 Accessions 47
Technical Sgt. Constance Chapman, Oaklawn, Ill: Goal 31 Accessions 33

During the year, Grissom's recruiters hosted a number of outreach programs to include a mass enlistment ceremony for new recruits, visits to local schools, and special education and recognition programs at professional sporting events.

"This accomplishment was not done solely by the recruiters, the 434th ARW is by far the best in the command," added Sergeant Fountas. " They support recruiting in every conceivable manner, from the Wing Commander down to our fantastic airman. Thanks again for making this an outstanding year for recruiting and the command."
