Recruits enlist at Grissom, take flight Published Oct. 15, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Mark R. W. Orders-Woempner 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- From around the Midwest they came with one mission, to raise their right hand and join an elite team sworn to defend freedom. This group, who chose to put service before self, came to join the Air Force Reserve as they enlisted here Oct 12. The new recruits converged at Grissom as to take part in a mass enlistment ceremony where they were administered their oath of enlistment by Col. William T. "Tim" Cahoon, 434th Air Refueling Wing commander. Family and friends gathered along with recruiters to watch as the men and women took their first steps in becoming Airmen. Making the event a true family affair, Craig and Corina Garrison, who are married, enlisted together. The couple will continue on the next phase of their Air Force journey as they will be leaving for basic military training at the same time, said Tech. Sgt. Constance Chapman, an Air Force Reserve Command recruiter. Shortly after taking their oath and signing paperwork to make it official, the recruits took off in one of the 434th Air Refueling Wing's KC-135R Stratotankers to witness the an aerial refueling mission.
