Weapons safety manager receives exemplary service award Published July 25, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. Mark R. W. Orders-Woempner 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- According to the dictionary, 'exemplary' literally means someone who is deserving of imitation, and perhaps that best describes one of Grissom's civil servants. Jerry Skiles, 434th Air Refueling Wing safety office weapons safety manager, was recently presented with an exemplary civilian service award in recognition of his distinguished performance as a safety instructor with the Media, Education and Force Development Division or the Air Force Safety Center at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., from Nov. 24, 2008 to April 22, 2011. In that position Skiles led the effort in developing and implementing the Aviation Safety Program Management training course and taught over 1,000 hours in various courses. "It's pretty cool; I've never gotten a civilian award, so it means a lot to me actually," said Skiles when asked about the award. "It means the last two years were worth it." Skiles left the 434th ARW safety office to work at the Safety Center for those two years before deciding to return home. According the award certificate, Skiles reflected great credit up himself and the Air Force, and in not so many words, is definitely deserving of imitation. The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Stay connected with the 434th ARW on Twitter and Facebook.
