As planning officials press forward with making the 2019 Grissom Air and Space expo a reality, opportunities for the community to get involved are available as event volunteers are being sought.

Master Sgt. Deborah Sweet, 434th Air Show volunteer coordinator, said applications are now being accepted for anyone interested in volunteering.

“There are multiple areas like welcome centers, VIP tents, set up and tear down and access where people can help,” said Sweet.

Sweet anticipates that up to 400 volunteers will be needed.

Volunteer opportunities exist in areas including parking help, foreign object debris walks, and assistance for guests who might have special needs.

Additional areas of help may develop as planning continues.

Sweet said that volunteering is open to ages 17 and older. Groups are welcomed but asked to be accompanied by a sponsor or mentor.

There are no special requirements to volunteer but Sweet said at a least an eight-hour block of time is ideal.

“We are open to anyone who would want to volunteer,” said Sweet.

The Grissom Air and Space Expo is scheduled for Sept. 7-8, 2019. Sweet said volunteers will meet on Sept. 6, 2019 to be given event day instructions.
