Nance is Senior NCO of the Quarter

Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. Chet Nance of Peru, Ind. was recently honored as the 434th Air Refueling Wing Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter.

Sergeant Nance is the Combat Arms Program Manager with the 434th Security Forces Squadron.

With his many other accomplishments Sergeant Nance was singled out as a top performer is his area of specialty during an inspection of the 434th SFS. Building to that nomination was an extensive effort by the sergeant to train military as well as federal and state agencies.

Master Sergeant Nance ensured that Airman were weapons qualified before deploying overseas to both Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. As well as making certain that those weapons used were maintained and operated safely.

"We've had several deployments, not only security forces but other organizations in the wing," said the sergeant. Adding, "for anyone deploying, it is combat arms responsibility to ensure they are weapons qualified for their deployment."

To add to his other efforts, Sergeant Nance has assisted state and local law enforcement as well as federal agencies with their fire arm programs.

Some of those agencies include law enforcement agencies from Peru, Kokomo, Logansport, Miami County, Howard County, Cass County, and the Indiana State Police. As well as government agencies including, the United States Department of Treasury and The United States Department of Agriculture.

"We open up our facilities so that we have environment where we are able to assist them with their weapons inspections and hold classes," said the sergeant.

The modest senior noncommissioned officer pointed out that accomplishments within the combat arms area were also a result of the quality of staff working with him and the wing's support.

"We are really quite proud of the facilities here at Grissom," he said. "The base gives us the support that we need." he added.
