First Sergeant is Senior NCO of the Year

Air Force Reserve Senior Master Sgt. David Simpson of North Vernon, Ind., was recently named Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the 434th Air Refueling Wing.

Sergeant Simpson is the newly appointed First Sergeant of the 434th Aerial Port Flight, supervising over 26 personnel. He has more than 17 years of military service.

The Senior NCO of the Year Award is given to service members who demonstrate exceptional expertise, professionalism, and advanced skills in their jobs, while supporting the mission of the Air Force Reserve Command.

Finalists are previous winners of the Senior NCO of the Quarter Award, who under go further screening, and appear before a panel made up of the senior NCO leadership from all organizations on base.

Sergeant Simpson was previously named Senior NCO of the Quarter for the 4th quarter of 2005, however this latest award caught him off guard.

"I was shocked," Simpson said. He didn't know he was going before the board until that UTA weekend.

In his civilian occupation, Sergeant Simpson is a machine operator with AK Tube, LLC of Walesboro, Indiana.
