Student jobs available at Grissom ARB

Students who want to increase their job skills while earning money to help with educational expenses are encouraged to look at opportunities at Grissom Air Reserve Base.

The Civilian Personnel Flight is currently applications for student jobs which range in pay from $11.01 to $12.80 per hour.

In order to qualify for one of the temporary student jobs, a person must be enrolled--or accepted for enrollment--in an accredited high school, college, university, graduate or professional school, or vocational program at a minimum of half time. For most schools, six credits are considered half time.

Once employed, the student must maintain a half time course load and be in good academic standing. Students may work up to 40 hours per week and supervisors may adjust work hours to accommodate class schedules. Students who wish to work part-time during the school year may be able to work full time during school vacations.

Student applicants must be at least 16 years of age to apply and will be required to provide a copy of their school registration or documents showing verifying student status. For those 16 years of age, a work permit will be needed from their school.

Types of temporary student positions available and hourly wages include office automation clerk ($11.01 per hour) and laborer ($12.80 per hour). Office automation clerks must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Student workers also earn paid vacation and sick time. The amount of time varies on the students' work schedule. After one year students are eligible to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program. The student has to pay their share and the government share plus a 2% administrative cost for their health plan.

Students applying for the office automation clerk position must include a statement on their resume certifying the number of words they can type per minute. If a student is a veteran and is claiming veteran's preference, they must also submit a copy of the DD 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty as proof of eligibility.

Grissom ARB is one of only four Air Force Reserve Command bases in the nation and is one of the largest employers in the Miami-Cass County region with an annual economic impact of more than $86 million.
