Grissom Airmen Celebrate Tradition at Air Force Ball

Second Lieutenant Matthew McDonnell, 434th Maintenance Squadron flight commander, cuts the second piece of cake during the cake cutting ceremony at the Air Force Ball by the 434th Air Refueling Wing to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, September 6, 2025, held in Kokomo, Indiana. Traditionally, the cake cutting ceremony is performed by both an enlisted and officer member, one with the most time in service, and the other with the least. This serves as a representation for Air Force leadership and a symbol for the past and future of the Air Force. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Alexa Culbert)
