Ronald Sharpless of Galveston, Ind., is presented the Distinguished Flying Cross from Brig. Gen. James Melin, 434th Air Refueling Wing Commander. In 1968, as Sergeant Sharpless, he distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in a mission as an EC-47 Airborne Radio Operator near Ban Me Thuot, Republic of Vietnam on Aug. 9, 1968. He was given the certificate, but never presented the medal. General Melin, and members of the 434th ARW, honored Mr. Sharpless during a special ceremony May 6 at Grissom.
