While Col. Larry Shaw has been on the job at Grissom for a few months now, one key group had to wait a little longer to meet and greet the new commander.
The Grissom Community Council held a special get together Sept. 23, 2016 at Chocks to meet Shaw and his wife Kris.
“It was great chance for me to reconnect with some old friends from before,” Shaw said. “These folks do an awesome job of supporting Grissom and everyone who serves here. I want to continue to foster that positive relationship.”
In all, more than 30 people attended the event, with members coming from Kokomo, Wabash, Logansport and Peru.
This was a great event for us," said Gary Beebe, GCC member. "For many of us it was a chance to re-connect with Colonel Shaw and his wife Kris, for others it was their first opportunity to meet with him.”

The council held the event at Chocks to make it easier for commanders to participate as well.

“The services staff provided a great venue and a relaxed atmosphere,” Beebe said. “We had a great time and we look forward to working with Colonel Shaw in the future.

In addition the group also had the opportunity to meet Chief Master Sgt. Wes Marion, 434th ARW command chief.

“Having the chance to meet the Chief Marion really added to the event," Beebe said.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Men and women from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
