Everyone has their own desired time to work out, and now those times are limitless due to recent changes to Grissom’s fitness center.

Grissom’s fitness center is now officially open 24/7, and even though the staff leaves at 1900, card carrying members are no longer limited to when they can work out.

“When a member comes in, all they have to do is sign the Grissom fitness center 24 hour access form,” said Zachery Holmes, 434th Force Support Squadron recreation assistant. “Instead of signing in every time you come in, you just scan your card, and you’re signed into our system which allows you to use our facility.”

Regularly, security forces and alert crews tend to use the facility at night since they both have 24/7 ops, said Holmes.

“It makes it much more accessible for folks that would like to come in and work out when it works best for them,” added Holmes. “Our regular hours don’t always work best for everyone.”

With the start of new program, there is always a learning curve, regardless.

“When people come to use the facilities, we ask they use the entry point directly left of the main entrance of the facility,” Holmes added. “You use your CAC card to enter the building and additionally use your CAC card by the card reader nearest the front desk. When you leave the building, you leave through the same entrance you entered from.”

With the gym being open 24 hours a day on unit training assembly day, it gives traditional reservists something to do at night.

“TR’s now have a way to do things on base which keeps them active during off duty times,” Holmes added. “Sometimes the weather isn’t that great so at least people will have an option of something in doors to do with their time.”

“In the future, we hope to see more members and their families using Grissom’s fitness facility which is a great thing, he added.”

Grissom is home to the largest KC-135 unit in the Air Force Reserve Command, Airmen and aircraft from the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives. In addition to the Marines Grissom is also home to two Army Reserve Units.
