Fitness is a common theme for military members throughout history, and to celebrate the fitness center held a race to promote camaraderie and esprit de corps.

Runners laced up their sneakers and hit the base running trail during a Veteran's Day 10K race at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., Nov 5.

Brendan Carney and Robert Dill, both members of the 434th Civil Engineers Squadron crossed the finish line first in 46:23.

In all, nine runners participated in the 6.2-mile run.

"We had a great turnout for the run," said Bruce Cannady, 434th Force Support Squadron recreation and fitness specialist. "The two guys that won were incredible; they started late and still won!"

The next planned run is a turkey trot on Nov. 19.

That run is a predict-a-time run where runners will guess how long it takes to run the 3.1-mile course without aid of a timing system. The top three people that most closely predict their time will win a turkey.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command.
