With a few turns of a shovel, mixing of some mulch and water, the Earth will get a little greener Friday.

Grissom is hosting an Arbor Day Celebration at 10 a.m. April 24, near the main base flag pole North of Bldg. 596.

Col. Scott Russell, 434th Support Group commander, will officiate the ceremony and plant a Yoshino cherry tree.

The Indiana base has been designated as a "Tree City" by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 14th consecutive year and has won numerous Department of
Defense awards for environmental excellence.

Grissom is home to the 434th Air Refueling Wing, the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command, as well as three Army Reserve units.

Airmen, Soldiers and Marines routinely deploy from Grissom around the world in support of the Department of Defense mission and U.S. strategic objectives.
