Working hard and playing hard is a motto for many military units, and for the Hoosier Wing the June unit training assembly was a time to play hard and have fun.

The 434th Air Refueling Wing held its family appreciation day picnic here at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind.,  June 6, 2015.

"We have been busy  [with inspections and exercises] and it was time to kick back and enjoy the day," said Col. Doug Schwartz, 434th Air Refueling Wing commander.

The 434th Services Flight and Airman Family Readiness Center teamed together to plan and execute the day with volunteers throughout the wing.

"We had good people doing good things for the families of this wing," said Chief Master Sgt. Rob Herman, 434th ARW command chief. "It really showed."

Whether it be from the sand volleyball pit, to the row of bouncy houses and water games, or classic car show, Airmen and their families had a chance to reinforce the camaraderie that makes the Grissom machine work.

The 434th ARW is the largest  KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command.
