Workers damaged a natural gas line during an authorized dig here today.

The leak forced the evacuation of some facilities on base and re-routed traffic temporarily along Foreman Avenue.

Emergency responders and civil engineers, in conjunction with contractors worked to shut off and vent gas lines to ensure the safety of everyone.

"We have plans in place to respond to a variety of scenarios," said Col. Doug Schwartz, 434th Air Refueling Wing commander. "We executed those plans and responded immediately to ensure that we protected life and property."

More information will be released as necessary.

The 434th Air Refueling Wing is the largest KC-135 Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Airmen and aircraft from the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the globe in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives.
