Grissom’s annual family day is scheduled from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 9, and is a great opportunity for families to learn what their Airman does when on duty here.

“Family day is a day we celebrate with our reservists,” said Mike Sampson, the sustainment services flight chief, 434th Force Support Squadron. “They have a chance to bring their families out to the base so they can see where they work and what they do. But it’s mostly fun for the family.

To keep the events in one centralized location, activities will be set up between the nose docks with plenty of space.

Activities and events include:

  •            Petting zoo and pony rides
  •            Water slide and dunk tank
  •            Bouncy houses
  •            Obstacle course
  •            Kid’s craft area
  •            Face painting and balloon art

Airman and Family Readiness will also run a mock deployment line giving children an opportunity to learn what their parents do to prepare for real deployments.

In addition, people from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and Veterans Service Organizations will hold an information fair that will cover a variety of topics.

“It’s always a lot of fun, and a lot of work,” Sampson said. “We always need volunteers to give us a hand and help us run some of the events.”

Anyone interested in volunteering should call 765-688-2414.
