Sheley new Maintenance Group commander Published April 23, 2006 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind -- Colonel Stan A. Sheley took command of the 434th Maintenance Group during an assumption of command ceremony at Grissom ARB on April 23.As the maintenance group commander, he is responsible for all facets of aircraft maintenance supporting a fleet of KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft and their worldwide aerial refueling mission. Group activities include aircraft launch and recovery, on and off equipment aircraft maintenance, fleet health support functions and a quality assurance element. The 434th Maintenance Group is one of thee major organizations within the 434th Air Refueling Wing. Colonel Sheley is a native of Taylorville, Ill. He was commissioned a second lieutenant from the United States Air Force Academy in 1986 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He has been assigned to a variety of units holding positions at the squadron, group and wing levels as a logistics planner, transportation officer, maintenance squadron commander, and maintenance group commander. Prior to his assignment at Grissom, he was the commander of the 934th Maintenance Group at Minneapolis-St. Paul Air Reserve Station, Minn. Colonel Sheley’s military awards decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two devices. He was promoted to the rank of colonel in February 2006.
