Grissom hosts successful multicultural dinner Published May 7, 2006 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind -- The annual Grissom Air Reserve Base multicultural dinner was a big success among unit members and included good food, entertainment and a dramatic keynote presentation by retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Joseph McNeil.The event was held at the Grissom Services Complex and was attended by a crowd of more than 275 people, including guests from the local civilian community and the Grissom Community Council.General McNeil, in addition to serving 37 years in the Air Force, was a founding member of America's civil rights movement. In February 1960, along with three other students from North Carolina A&T University, he participated in a sit-in at the Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro, N.C., to protest segregation. His actions led to similar movements that swept through the South and eventually led to the end of segregation. General McNeil's keynote presentation covered his role in the civil rights movement and his highly successful Air Force career.Command Chief Master Sgt. Peri Rogowski served as the evening's MC. Entertainment was provided by Linda Bailey, vocalist; the Becky Seamster Dance Troupe, and Gary Lockard, guitarist.
