Cocklin completes First Sergeant Academy Published July 20, 2006 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BEASE, Ind -- Master Sgt. Martina Cocklin of Warren, Ind., recently graduated from the United States Air Force First Sergeant Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.. Sergeant Cocklin, who was selected to serve as the first sergeant for the 434th Maintenance Operations Flight, has been a member of the Air Force Reserve for 19 years and has a total of 24 years of military service. During the 3-week course, she studied such topics as unit administration, human resource prevention and intervention, quality force management, military justice, family care, dress and personnel appearance, and deployment issues. As the first sergeant for the 434th MOF, Cocklin will exercise general supervision of enlisted personnel and serve as the focal point for all matters concerning enlisted members. She will also be responsible for providing sound advice to the commander on a wide range of topics dealing with enlisted issues. Working with fellow noncommissioned officers, Sergeant Cocklin will work to ensure discipline is equally maintained and the goals of health, esprit de corps, mentoring and the welfare of enlisted forces are met. First sergeants are normally on-call 24-hours a day and ready to respond to any situation involving enlisted personnel. Additionally, Sergeant Cocklin was recently awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal for her efforts in support of an Expeditionary Operational Readiness Inspection. The week-long EORI tested the unit’s ability to meet its wartime mission. The citation that accompanied the award outlined Sergeant Cocklin’s teamwork and unselfish support as well as her technical expertise, professional skill and dedication. In her civilian occupation, she is an administrative assistance with Rock Leasing, Inc., in Warren, Ind.
