Volunteers needed for military retiree liaison office Published Dec. 15, 2006 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind -- Officials at Grissom ARB are looking for military retirees who would be willing to serve as volunteers for a new military retiree liaison office. Grissom has not had a military retiree liaison office since the early 1990s when the base was an active duty facility. "There are hundreds of military retirees in the local area and we want to establish a program to outreach to them," said Lt. Col. Gary Lockard, chief of public affairs. "There is a need for an office where military retirees can go, or call, for help and advice." Since the base has not had a military retiree liaison office for almost two decades, the base will be building the program from the ground up explained Colonel Lockard. "We are confident it will be a successful program in the longer term. However, our immediate challenge is finding volunteers to help establish the program." Volunteers should be able to donate one day a week at the base, be a military retiree, and have basic computer skills. The exact amount of time an individual may donate to the program will depend on how many volunteers are available and the needs of the local military retiree community. "Our long term goal is to have a military retiree liaison office that not only answers questions, but has proactive programs, such as a monthly newsletter, to outreach to the retiree community," said Colonel Lockard. Individuals who are interested in donating their time for this program should contact the 434th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office at (765) 688-3348.
