Retiree Information Office prepares for April 3 opening

  • Published
Final preparations have been completed and the volunteer staff members of the new Retiree Information Office at Grissom ARB will be ready to help people beginning April 3.

When the office opens in early April, it will mark Grissom's first major outreach to the military retiree community in almost 20 years.

"We had the final planning session earlier today and the volunteer staff members are ready for the big day," said Lt. Col. Gary Lockard, chief of Public Affairs. "I am confident the office will provide long-term benefits for the base and our local military retirees."

Recent developments include a name change, adjustment to operating hours, a new toll free number, and a featured section on the Grissom ARB Internet Web Site.

"There were a number of discussions on what to officially call the office," added Colonel Lockard. "After evaluating a number of suggestions, it was decided by the staff to call it the Retiree Information Office, or RIO."

The office's initial operating hours were also revised. The new hours are Tuesdays from 9 - 11 am and Thursdays from 2-4 pm. Special appointments can also be arranged.

"We will evaluate the number of telephone calls and walk-in visitors during the first month and then look at adjustments to the operating hours," added Colonel Lockard. "The goal is to have hours that meet the needs of the military retiree community."

Initially, the RIO will be co-located in the GARB Public Affairs Office in Bldg 596, Room 200. Long-term plans are for the RIO to obtain its own separate office. To reach the office by phone, call (765) 688-3348 or toll free at 1-800-635-0961, Ext 3328 .

Additional information on the office can also be found on the Grissom ARB internet web site at: www.grissom.afrc.af.mil/library/retireeoffice.asp
