GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind., -- Lt. Col. (Dr.) Ricardo Salvat, optometrist, performs a slit-lamp exam on Staff Sgt. Jason Geiger, 434th Aerospace Medicine Squadron. The exam is performed on the cornea to detect foreign objects and abrasions. The colonel notes this type of corneal damage can result from fireworks accidents. Doctor Salvat warns that everyone must stay cognizant of the need for eye protection and that eye safety is no accident. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Chris Bolen)
