Valentine's dinner, commissary sale highlight upcoming retiree events Published Jan. 24, 2008 GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind -- A special Valentine's dinner, commissary case lot sale, and trips to the Honeywell Center and Branson, Mo., are part of the upcoming events schedule for military retirees at Grissom ARB. All of the activities are open to military retirees, regardless of their branch of service, and their families. The events are part of Grissom's on-going outreach to military retirees and are sponsored by the Military Retiree Information Office. "The volunteers who work in the Military Retiree Information Office have done an outstanding job in coordinating these special events," stated Lt. Col. Gary Lockard, chief of public affairs. "Their goal was to have some events at the base, with special 'road trips' to other locations." The Valentine's Dinner Dance will be Friday, February 15, at the Base Consolidated Club and Dining Facility. Social hour begins at 6.00 pm, followed by dinner and dancing. Cost is $18 for a single or $35.00 per couple. Special room and dinner packages are also available. The Air Force Commissary Service will hold a special "case lot sale" at Grissom on Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marine Corps Reserve Center. The case lot sale will feature a variety of grocery items, including paper products, canned goods, refrigerated items and meats. "The nearest commissary is at Harrison Village in Indianapolis," added Colonel Lockard. "The commissary service's willingness to have a special sale at Grissom, to help military retirees save time and gas by not having to drive to Indianapolis, is commendable. If there is a good turn out for the case lot sale, it increases the chances of having this type of event on a regular basis at Grissom" For music lovers, the Retiree Information Office is sponsoring a visit to the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Ind., on March 2 for brunch and a concert by the Manchester Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $15 (for age 65+) and $22 (age 64 and below). Ticket includes brunch at Eugenia's Restaurant and the concert. A trip south is on the schedule in April as military retirees have the opportunity to travel to Branson, Mo. The April 24-27 trip includes transportation, deluxe accommodations at the Savannah House, most meals and tickets to five different shows. Prices range from $424 to $567 depending on room accommodations. For the Valentine's dinner and Honeywell and Branson trips, reservations are required.
