Airmen from the 434th Aerospace Medicine Squadron are hosting a 5k run/walk at Grissom Air Reserve Base to raise money for needy families during Christmas.

""We wanted to do something that brought the Grissom community together and support families here at Grissom," said Senior Airman Erica Suchovsky, 434th AMDS health services technician.

The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Sept. 6 at the fitness center and is open to all service members and their families, and civilian employees.

"We really are doing this race for the disenfranchised families that will benefit from the proceeds during Christmas," said Senior Airman Eileen Smith, 434th AMDS health services technician. "Another reason is it will be good for camaraderie and morale."

A trophy will be given to the winner and kept at their unit for the year.

"The plan is to have this race annually and the winning unit will have the bragging rights for a year," said Senior Airman Clayton Duncan, 434th AMDS medical services technician.

The registration fee is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 6-17 and children under five are free.

T-shirt's will be given to those who register by Aug. 24; however there will be an open registration until the start of the race.

To register for the event contact Airman Suchovsky at Ext. 3334 or email erica.suchovsky@grissom.af.mil
