Guard Black Hawk, Kiowa to fly training missions from Grissom

GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. --  Residents of North Central Indiana may notice two Army helicopters flying overhead the next few weeks.

The Indiana National Guard is sending one UH-60 Black Hawk and one OH-58 Kiowa to Grissom for three weeks of training beginning July 9.

According to the Indiana Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, their aviation assets will conduct valuable and potentially lifesaving, search and rescue training utilizing a Black Hawk and Kiowa alongside state and local law enforcement officers during the month of July. Units from around Indiana and the Midwest often use Grissom for training thanks in part to its modern aviation facilities and central location.

"We're excited we can provide facilities and support for the National Guard," said Col. Bryan Reinhart, 434th Air Refueling Wing vice commander. "Grissom is proud that other units see the benefits of teaming with Grissom and our outstanding Airmen."

Grissom is home to the 434th ARW, the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command, but also hosts three Army Reserve units and a Marine Corps Reserve communications detachment.
