GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- With temperatures being colder than average in the Midwest, members of the 434th Air Refueling Wing took advantage of an unusually warm day to stretch their stride.
Approximately 20 Airmen and civilians from the wing met at the base fitness center to participate in a 5k run here April 12.
“We were blessed to have a 55 degree day,” said Marty Foye, 434th ARW financial services officer, who has participated in almost every base run for the last two years. “This run was especially enjoyable because all the participants from our building ran in a group, chatted along the way and finished together as a team.”
The fitness center sponsors several runs throughout the year with the next run being scheduled May 23, 2018 at noon.
“Participating in base fitness activities helps me get involved with the base and meet members from other organizations,” said Janette Arnold, 434th ARW honor guard program manager. “It’s a great way to meet people and build relationships.”
Foye echoed Arnold’s sentiment, but added that he wishes more people would come out at least once to see what a great event they are.
“Leadership across the base really supports the events,” said Foye. “Most participants say they came out because their supervisor mentioned the run and supported it.”
Future runs are scheduled as follows:
July 25, at noon, Dog Days of Summer 5k
Aug. 29, at noon, Labor Day 5k
September 26, at noon, Fall Foliage 5k
