The Grissom fitness center hosted their annual Turkey Trot 5K on November 15, 2017.

Despite the cold and the rain several enterprising runners came out to participate in an attempt to win one of the four turkeys being offered as prizes for the race.

Grissom’s Turkey Trot was set up as a predicted time race, meaning that the Turkeys went not to the fastest runners but to the runners who most closely predicted their run times before the start of the race.

“The predicted time race is nice because you can focus more on your pace than on where the other runners are,” said Marty Foye, 434th Air Refueling Wing financial services officer. “You don’t have to be the fastest runner to win, you just have to be able to judge your speed.”

The four winners were; in first place Marty Foye, in second place Capt. Chad Nickson, 434th Operation Support Squadron intelligence officer, and tied for third place were Senior Airman Brian Wright, 434th Maintenantce Squadron powered support systems technician, and Chuck Lambeth.

The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Men and women from the Hoosier Wing routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission.
