The 434th Force Support Squadron is spreading the word that the Air Force Instruction covering Officer and Enlisted Evaluations Systems, AFI 36-2406, has been updated and extensively reformatted.

The changes include the elimination in redundancies, clarification on who received enlisted evaluations and separation of officer and enlisted evaluations into individual chapters.

Senior Master Sgt. Matt Eichenfels, 434th FSS superintendent, understands the evaluation process can be an arduous process but he also stressed the importance of the program and urges anyone with questions about the changes or evaluation program to reach out to the military personnel section.

“People are our passion,” said Eichenfels. “While many tend to view the Air Force Evaluations
System as tedious and time consuming, I believe that it is an effective tool to gauge and guide an Airman's performance.”

Senior Airman Matt Kaim, 434th FSS evaluations program manager, also stressed the importance of the evaluation program as a method for reviewing performance within the wing.

“As the wing POC for the evaluations program, I have learned that the effective use of the evaluations program is paramount to recording a member’s performance,” said Kaim. “Additionally, I have seen a significant improvement in the quality of the evaluations that are coming through the military personnel section and I have noted that they are being processed by Air Reserve Personnel Center in a more expeditious manner.”

Beyond gauging performance the evaluation process also affects career development and promotion opportunities for Airmen.

“It is a key part of the officer promotion program and can provide enlisted promotion opportunities as well.” said Eichenfels. “In addition, it largely affects eligibility to attend in-residence professional military education courses as well as the selection process for developmental education boards. We have to make it a priority. Here at Grissom, the military personnel section has an impressive knowledge of the program. We continue to find new and efficient ways to education the wing on evaluations and we have the right people in place to execute this endeavor.”

Finally Eichenfels reminds everyone that evaluations are due 30 days after the static closeout date and are considered overdue after 60 days. The closeout dates are broken down by rank. This year’s closeout dates are and were;
