Grissom Airman wins AFRC Force Support NCO of the Year Published May 25, 2016 By Senior Airman Dakota Bergl 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- The Air Force Reserve Command awarded a member of the 434th Force Support Squadron the 2015 Force Support Noncommissioned Officer of the Year award. Tech. Sgt. Erica Sherwood, 434th FSS NCO in charge of force management, received the award for her outstanding leadership and on the job performance. “It felt really good to be recognized,” said Sherwood. “I feel like a lot of what we do goes unnoticed and it is nice to see that isn’t the case.” Sherwood managed multiple duty sections with minimal staffing while her peers were deployed. “I manage 22 programs and sometimes it can be hard to keep your head above water,” she said. “I’m very modest so I was surprised when I found out I was being nominated for this award.” Lt. Col. Scott Uselding described her as a “manpower guru”. He said that she is one of the main reasons that Grissom is so well staffed. “She worked tirelessly with civilian personnel on 52 new active reserve technician hires,” said Uselding. “That increased full time support by more than 10 percent. She is our wing’s go-to personnelist.” The 434th ARW is the largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command. Airmen and aircraft from the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission and U.S. strategic objectives. Stay connected, visit Grissom on Facebook and Twitter.
