A well-oiled machine by itself doesn't accomplish much, but under the direction of a leader can accomplish great things, and one such leader was recently recognized.

Carole Cann, 434th Logistics Readiness Squadron general supply specialist, was named Grissom's 2014 Civilian Supervisor of the Year for her outstanding work and accomplishments recently.

"Earning this award made me feel very proud," said Cann. "Excellent customer service is something we strive for every day in base supply, and getting the award makes me feel like people recognize those efforts."

In her position, Cann manages the accounts and oversees purchases of supplies and equipment for the entire base. Last year alone, she provided oversight of more than 100,000 purchases throughout the wing.

"Cann is a phenomenal supervisor and a critical asset to our organization," said Maj. Kathleen Labahn, 434th LRS commander. "Her job responsibilities play a critical role in supplying the base with mission essential equipment used here at Grissom and for our Airmen deploying around the world."

In her role as a supervisor, Cann utilizes her five years of regular Air Force service as a supply specialist and her 33 years of Department of Defense civilian experience to ensure her employees are properly trained.

"It's important for me to ensure that my folks have the necessary training to perform their jobs efficiently," said Cann. "I also want to ensure they have an understanding of the importance of customer service."

When Cann is not training, she is leading by example.

"Cann is always willing to go the distance to get her customer what they need," added Labahn. "You can tell she loves her job and the people she serves; she always comes to work with a smile."
