Benjamin Mota 434th ARW Public Affairs GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- Decorated signs of support, love and hope filled a Grissom hangar as family members waited for loved ones to return home. Fourteen Airmen from Grissom's 434th Security Forces Squadron returned to Grissom from a 180-day deployment to Southwest Asia August 8, 2015. The defenders were the last group from their unit to return following a deployment of approximately 60 434th SFS Airmen supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. While initially stationed at the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, Southwest Asia, the group gradually transitioned to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing, Southwest Asia, fulfilling the same security elements as their predecessors. "While deployed, our security forces specialists provided mission essential base defense and aircraft security," said Lt. Col. Christopher Witter 434th SFS commander. "Their efforts maintained the same air-tight security [at the 332nd AEW] that has been in place since Desert Storm." The members arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, where they cleared customs before their final leg home to Grissom. After turning in equipment, they were released until later in the day for final inprocessing before beginning their recovery and leave time. Members of the 434th ARW routinely deploy around the world in support of the Air Force mission. The unit is the largest is KC-135R Stratotanker unit in the Air Force Reserve Command.
