GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Ind. -- Grissom hosted an active threat integrated response course here April 15-17, bringing in both local and on-base emergency responders.
The 27 participants consisted of 434th Security Forces Squadron, Peru Police Department, Miami County Sheriff’s Department, Grissom Fire, Indianapolis, Frankfurt, Monticello, and Sugar Creek Township fire departments, as well as emergency managers from Miami and Grant counties and the Indianapolis Department of Homeland Security.
“The training is a performance level direct delivery course designed to improve integration between law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services in active shooter events,” said 1st Lt. Albin Cvoric, 434th Security Forces operations officer.
The course provides law enforcement officers with key medical skills based on tactical emergency casualty care guidelines which can be used at the point of injury to increase survivability of victims.
The 24-hour course also provides a model framework for law enforcement, fire, and EMS to integrate responses during an active shooter event through the rescue task force concept using the Active Shooter Incident Management Checklist.
This course has been designed to improve the safety and survivability of victims of active shooter and mass shooting events and increase the effectiveness, coordination, and resource integration between law enforcement, fire and EMS when responding to these events, he said.
