Ten guardsmen and reservists are augmenting the 422nd Security Forces Squadron here as 21 active-duty Airmen are deployed supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Even though almost half of the 422nd SFS are deployed downrange, the mission at their home station doesn't end, but that's where the Guard and Reserve come in.

"The Guard and Reserve provide a lot of versatility for the military, because we can be called on at any time to help augment the active duty mission," said Tech. Sgt. Dustin Schimp, a combat arms specialist for the 434th Security Forces Squadron in Indiana. He volunteered to be activated to come to England for 18 months of duty.

The Guard and Reserve Airmen provide installation security, complete random anti-terrorism measures, and maintain fence line integrity.

Sergeant Schimp has also been tasked to help redevelop their record management system, to help make the data easily accessible, and help them work better with their limited manpower. It's something he does in his civilian role, and helps him with his college studies back home.
